Where to get help
If gambling has stopped being fun, help is available in Nigeria and internationally. The Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority publishes a self-exclusion register and a helpline number on its own site. The international helpline run by GamCare answers in English at any hour. Most operators we cover, including Betpot, allow self-exclusion from the account settings page in two clicks; use it before the problem grows rather than after. Talking to someone you trust — a family member, a friend, a doctor — is also help, and it is often the first and most useful step.
Myths about gambling
A long losing streak does not mean the next spin is more likely to win. Slot machines, roulette wheels and dice have no memory of their previous outcomes, and no system — betting progression, pattern reading, lucky number — changes the maths. Chasing losses by betting bigger is the single most common path from recreation to problem. If you ever find yourself depositing to win back what you lost rather than for entertainment, stop that session and read the signs of problem list below.
Helpline list
Nigerian players can reach the National Lottery Trust Fund helpline through the regulator's own site. Players in the United Kingdom can reach GamCare on 0808 8020 133. Players in the European Union can reach their national helpline through the Begambleaware index. Lifeline Nigeria operates a general mental-health helpline that will not refuse a call about gambling. All of these services are free and confidential; none of them require you to prove anything about yourself before they will talk to you.
Limits and tools
Every operator we review publishes deposit limits, loss limits, session limits, reality checks and self-exclusion. Set the deposit limit before you make the first deposit, not after: a decision taken in the account settings in a quiet moment is more honest than a decision taken while chasing losses. Use the loss limit as the inner fence and the deposit limit as the outer fence. If you have ever broken a limit you set yourself, use self-exclusion for at least six months.
Signs of problem
The signs of problem gambling are visible before the problem is severe: betting more than you planned, feeling anxious after a session, hiding sessions or losses from family, chasing losses, borrowing money to deposit, missing work or sleep because of gambling, and losing interest in things that used to be fun. One of these is a warning, two is a reason to pause, three or more is a reason to pick up the phone and call one of the helplines above.
